  • Waiheke Island
  • Banks Peninsula
  • Visit Te Papa Museum

  3. Be careful of where you put your rubbish and plastic because a lot of it ends up in our oceans

SLJ, Off the menu- Day 5, Activity 1

I think the rule about overfishing should stay as it is because if you are caught overfishing you are breaking a rule that has been put in place to protect someone or something in this case it is the fish. I think it is a good rule and it should stay.

SLJ, Planes, Trains and Automobiles- Day 4, activity 1

I would choose Boat. The reason I chose Boat was because you could see more things than on foot, you could go to cool little islands out in the sea, that you would not be able to get there on foot. Another reason why I would go on the boat is because I love going on boats and I think they are a really cool way to see Milford Sound. Image result for boat trips at milford sound

SLJ, First You ‘Sea’ Me, Now You Don’t…- Day 3, activity 1

Out of a "Night Owl' and a "Early Bird', I think I am a 'Early Bird", as in weekends I always get up at six o'clock. I also am a bit of a night owl, as I do stay up late some nights, but I tend to more of a early riser. In my family only Dad and I are Early Birds.

Dad- Early Bird
Mum- Night Owl

SLJ, Stranger than Fiction- Day 2, activity 3

For this activity I chose the Lithop & the Welwitschia Mirabilis

SLJ, Weaving a tall tale, Day 2, activity 1

I have had a go at flax weaving a couple of times. I wasn't very good at it as it is quite a hard and tricky thing to do. Flax weaving however does not interest me at all, as it sometimes can get confusing when you have to go under and over, under and over, or something like that. Also it just is not my thing. Image result for flax weaving

SLJ, Living on the Edge, Day 5, Activity 2

Dear Mum,

I have just got back from visiting the Tundra. It was an amazing experience! The thing I loved most about it was the scenery! It was incredible! There were a LOT of beautiful flowers. There were massive plains of just these types of grass & flowers. I saw lots of squirrels, Swans and even a few Snowy Owls!. The landscape was quite cool & different to ours in New Zealand! As I said before there were just big plains of land, with no trees and and was completely dry! We went on lots of walks around the hills and mountains and saw lots of plants and animals that we don't have here in New Zealand.

From Caitlyn

SLJ, Towering Timbers- Day 5, Activity 1

I am half and half with logging in New Zealand. I do support it a bit- Here are my reasons for why I do support it-

  1. It does make money for our country
  2. It can maintain forest and bush health

Reasons why I am against it as well-

  1. It can force animals out of their home where they live
  2. It could possibly damage the environment

SLJ, Salt & Pepper- Day 4, Activity 3

I would build my hotel on the beachfront in Fiji. I would build it out of brick & wood I think.

Here is my design.

SLJ, Scaling New Heights- Day 4, Activity 1

Questions I would like to ask Sir Edmund Hillary-

  1. What made you want to climb Mount Everest?
  2. How long did it take you to climb the mountain?
  3. Were there times when you regretted climbing the mountain?
  4.  How long did you walk a day?
  5. When you got to the top what was the first thing you did?

SLJ, The WFF- Day 3, activity 3

  1. The WFF is trying to save the Saimaa Seal
  2. They are building snow banks for the seals. Snow banks are what the seals give birth on. If there ain't any snow banks, the pups are born out in the open ice & also half of the pups could die.
  3. I think they have a chance of saving the seals if they keep doing what they are doing, but I think they need a long term plan

SLJ, Giants Among Us- Day 2, Activity 1

I would like to visit Tane Mahuta because it would be awesome to see in real life as it is MASSIVE!. I think it would a great experience to wrap your arms around it and see how many people can fit around it.Image result for tane mahuta

SLJ, North & South- Day 1, Activity 2

My Hometown is Moonlight. Moonlight is a tiny community in the west coast on the south island. The reason I love Moonlight is because of its scenery. A lot of the scenery in Moonlight is Farmland and paddocks with cows in them, their is also rivers that we love to swim in.

SLJ, The legend of New Zealand, Day 1, Activity 1

My Favourite fun facts about New Zealand,

  1. New Zealand holds the record for the tallest freestanding structure in the southern hemisphere. That is the Auckland Sky Tower
  2. New Zealand is apart of the "Ring of fire". The most active volcano is found in the middle of the North Island, which is Mount Ruapehu.
  3. Aotearoa is the maori name for New Zealand. Aotearoa means "Land of the long white cloud"

SLJ, Pancakes & Maple Syrup?- Day 4, Activity 2

One of my favourite food is Spaghetti & Cheese pizza. I love it homemade!

SLJ, The Secretive Skink- Day 3, activity 2

One of the activities for day 3 was "The Secretive Skink"

Pros about being a Doc Ranger-
  1. You would get to spend a lot of time outdoors
  2. Learn lots about the environment & Nature
  3. Senior doc rangers can earn from $56,000 to $89,000 a year

Cons about a Doc Ranger-
  1. Work outdoors in all weather conditions
  2. A lot of the time you are working alone
  3. Usually work regular business hours, but may also work evenings and weekends

I don't think I would like to be a Doc Ranger, because of some of those reasons. I wouldn't like to work on rainy days out in the bush.

SLJ, Ice, Ice Baby- Day 1, activity 3

SLJ, Fabulous Ferns- Day 2, Activity 2

One of today's activities was to list 3 NZ sports teams that have the word "Fern" in their title. Here is my work,

Silver Ferns- Women's Netball team.  Image result for silver ferns uniform

Image result for black ferns uniform
Black Ferns- Women's rugby union team

Tall Ferns- Women's Basketball

My Favourite uniform would be the netball one because I like the fern that goes across the bottom of the skirt.

Caitlyn, Silver bar Presentation

On friday I got my Silver bar. Getting a bar means that you have completed a range of challenging tasks and activities. I have only put a few tasks that I have completed. I spoke at assembly & got my bar. I have already got my bronze bar so this will be my second bar.

Culture of Japan

For my silver bar, I have made a slide about the Japanese culture. I chose this culture because it look really fascinating and I wanted to learn more about it.

How to eat fried worms- This is a worm???

At reading the year 7 & 8 are reading the book How to eat fried worms. The activity we did today was about WORMS. For this activity we had to label the parts of a real Worm. To help me I used my paper worm I made. I enjoyed doing this activity.
