Week 4, day 5

When I finish school I would like to go to university and study zoology and animals. Then I would like to work as a Zookeeper at a zoo or work at an orana park.Image result for Auckland Zoo

  1. Kia ora Caitlyn,

It sounds like you really like animals. I think you would make a great zoologist one day since you already look after so many animals on your farm. Great work completing this activity! Maybe you could draw or find a picture of a zookeeper or an orana to add to this blog post.

We have a great zoo in Auckland. The Auckland Zoo is quite a neat place. They have so many different animals here. They have animals like mercats, red pandas, elephants, orangutans and more! Once when I was there they were feeding the love birds. It was magical having 30 love birds fly all around you!

What would be the best part about being a zookeeper? Is there a particular zoo you want to work at? Maybe even one overseas?

    Keep up the great blogging!

    Noho ora mai,

    Emiely :)

    1. Hi Emiely

Yep, I can put a picture of a zoo onto my blog.

I have been to Auckland zoo before and I loved it! I feed the giraffes which was very cool, but since I was only little i dropped my bit of food.

If I was a zookeeper I would love to look after the Elephants, because they are my favorite animal. I would like to work at the Auckland zoo or Willowbank in Christchurch. Last year I was a junior zookeeper for a day, which was really fun. My group had to pick a the lemeur poo and feed the baby chicks and lots more!

    2. Kia ora Caitlyn,

What a great experience being able to feed such tall creatures! It's great to hear you have been involved with some junior zoo keeping too. It sounds like you had a lot of smelly, cute fun!

One time when I was in Thailand, I lucky enough to be able to feed and meet some elephants at an elephant sanctuary. I fed them some sugar canes and bananas! They are such beautiful and gentle giants.

Here is a link of a picture of me with one of the elephants:

Elephants are my favourite animals too. Why do you like elephants?

    3. Hi Emiely

I love Elephants so much because they are calm, gentle and beautiful creatures. It is so sad that people poach Elephants for their ivory in there tusks.

That is a really cool photo of you and the Elephant!

    4. Kia ora Caitlyn,

I completely agree. It's very sad that a lot of elephants are being poached and used as a tourist attraction. Although, there are increasing numbers of elephant sanctuaries which teach people how to respect and allow elephants to live and grow the best they can. Have you heard of elephant sanctuaries before and do you know of any? I really hope to visit another one, one day!
